Fosamax causes jawbone death
Despite its widespread use to treat osteoporosis, Fosamax has also caused a rare condition known as osteonecrosis of the jaw. Osteonecrosis of the jaw, also called dead jaw syndrome, occurs when small cuts and dental work result in a severe injury. When this happens, a small opening in the tissue covering the jaw becomes infected and cuts off blood flow to the bone, resulting in jawbone death. Some users have reported jawbone collapse after a dental procedure that left them without warning about this side effect.
Plaintiff’s lawyers are using this case to put the drug on trial. Merck, the company that makes Fosamax, has denied that the medication caused the jawbone to die. While Merck argues that Graves’ condition was caused by another prescription, a lawsuit filed against the manufacturer cited Fosamax’s over-marketing and failure to warn doctors of the risks. Fosamax causes femur fractures
Some patients taking Fosamax may suffer femur fractures, especially if they have bone loss or osteoporosis. The femur bone is one of the body’s largest and strongest bones, and it is particularly vulnerable to injury. Falling or car accidents can cause femur fractures, and patients with severe osteoporosis may suffer from femur fractures while taking the drug.

Fosamax causes unusual thigh fractures
A recent lawsuit claims that Fosamax is linked to unusual thigh fractures among women taking the drug. The lawsuit claims that the drugmaker failed to warn women about this side effect. The FDA has ordered Merck to update its label with the information. However, the company claims that it was not allowed to make the change because the FDA declined to grant its request. However, this disingenuous tactic may be replicated by other pharmaceutical companies.
While it is possible to break a bone while on Fosamax, this is unlikely to cause pain or disability. The drug interferes with the natural process of bone remodeling, so small, clean fractures can accumulate to lead to more severe Fosamax femur fractures. In addition, Fosamax can lead to a condition known as “frozen bone,” which stops the body’s natural remodeling process. This may contribute to clean, discolored fractures.
Fosamax causes jawbone deterioration
A lawsuit filed against the manufacturer of the bisphosphonate drug Fosamax alleges that it caused the jawbone tissue to die. Boles, a 71-year-old retired deputy sheriff, had her teeth extracted in 2002 but still suffers from medical problems. Her case is one of several hundred that were consolidated in New York. The trial has been ongoing since August 12 and has included internal company documents, case reports from medical journals, and other evidence that shows Fosamax is causing the jawbone deterioration.
