Class Action Lawsuit Against Ford Motor Company
- by Ayden
In a recent class-action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company, millions of consumers alleged defects in the MT82 transmission. Another group of consumers claimed corrosion in aluminum body panels reduced the value of millions of cars. In this article, we explore the issues raised in the class action. We also look at the failure of the master cylinder design, which caused a sudden loss of pressure. Hopefully, these articles will provide the necessary background information to make an informed decision.
The class-action lawsuit alleges defects in MT82 transmissions
Ford Mustang owners can file a class-action lawsuit against the automaker over alleged defects in their MT82 six-speed manual transmissions. Ford has known about the MT82 transmission problem since 2011 but did not take adequate steps to prevent the issue from occurring. The automaker issued seven technical service bulletins and special service messages about the transmissions. However, the courts have rejected the general allegations about Ford testing.
Owners of the 2011-2019 Ford Mustang are filing a class-action lawsuit against Ford because their vehicles’ MT82 transmissions are defective. The transmissions in these vehicles suffer from premature internal wear and are susceptible to gear clashing and jerking. Additionally, they can experience excessive shift effort and catastrophic failure due to the transmission’s mechanical problems. In addition, transmissions can fail prematurely due to a design defect.
The automaker has issued seven Technical Service Bulletins and special messages for owners of the affected vehicles. These messages outlined various repairs, including replacement of third/fourth shift forks, clutch pedal position switches, and draining and refilling of the transmission. While Ford did replace the MT82 transmission in the 2017 model year, the problems persist. Ford even replaced the MT82 with the MT82-D4 for that model year, but these repairs were not enough to remedy the problem. Ford has since replaced the MT82 with a new model that is stouter, but these repairs have not solved the problem.
Alleges corrosion on aluminum body panels has reduced the value of millions of cars
In a recent decision, a New Jersey judge dismissed one item from a three-count lawsuit against Ford Motor Company, alleging the company failed to correct a corrosion problem on aluminum body panels. Ford also allegedly failed to address the corrosion problem during assembly and sold affected cars without repairing the deteriorated panels. As a result, many cars are now worth far less than they once were.
Alleges failure of master cylinder design causes a sudden loss of pressure
A Class Action Lawsuit against Ford Motor Company alleges the manufacturer failed to warn truck owners about the risks of brake fluid leaks. The lawsuit alleges that the company’s master cylinder design failed to protect the braking system from the failure of a seal on the piston. This led to fluid leaks and, in some cases, a sudden loss of pressure. The failure of the seal caused the truck to fail to stop or slow down. Drivers have reported rolling through stop signs and hitting objects.
The problem was discovered when engineers at Ford met to discuss transmission problems, which they did in secret. This happened while Ford executives were promoting the dual-clutch transmission and boasting of gas mileage near a 40 mpg highway. Despite the problems, Ford executives pushed forward with the transmission despite warnings and concerns. The company is fighting to keep the internal documents confidential.
Plaintiffs in a Ford F-150 lawsuit say the company knew its master cylinders were defective but sold hundreds of thousands of these vehicles anyway. The manufacturer responds that it replaced faulty master cylinders with new ones of the same design. They say they’re entitled to compensation. Ford Motor Company has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, and so far they’ve been successful in getting half of the claims dismissed.
